Dr. Paul B. Canale, Medical Director, The Spine Institute, Earns “Compassionate Doctor” and “Patient’s Choice” Awards from Vitals

Dr. Paul B. Canale, board certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with The Spine Institute at Baldwin Bone & Joint, was recently recognized with two awards, in part for the difference he makes in the lives of his patients. Canale received Compassionate Doctor Recognition and a Patients’ Choice Award for 2019 from Vitals, an online database of medical professionals owned by WebMD that ranks physicians based on patient experience and feedback.

Canale has successfully treated patients with neck and spine conditions for more than 30 years. He specializes in complex spinal reconstruction surgery and serves as medical director of The Spine Institute at Baldwin Bone & Joint.

The Compassionate Doctor award is granted to physicians who treat their patients with kindness and is based on a physician’s overall and bedside manner scores, according to information provided on the Vitals website. Canale also received Compassionate Doctor Recognition in 2015, 2016 and 2018.

A Patients’ Choice recognition reflects the difference a physician has made in the lives of his or her patients. It is bestowed on physicians who have received near perfect scores, as voted on by patients, according to information provided on the Vitals website. This is Dr. Canale’s second year to receive this honor.

In 2018, more than 280 million people used Vitals to search for healthcare options based on specialty, doctor and/or condition. One of the largest digital health properties in the U.S., Vitals Consumer Services Division is comprised of Vitals.com and UCompareHealthCare.com. In August 2018, both online platforms became subsidiaries of WebMD.

Compassionate Doctor certification is granted to physicians who treat their patients with the utmost kindness. The honor is granted based on a physician’s overall and bedside manner scores.
