Dr. Paul Canale
Daphne, Ala. (March 16, 2023) – After 19 years with the Daphne-based orthopaedic practice, Baldwin Bone & Joint announces the retirement of Dr. Paul Canale. Dr. Canale completed two fellowships, one in foot & ankle and the other specializing in complex spine surgery. Baldwin Bone & Joint, Baldwin County Public Schools & City Hope Church Partner for the 18th Annual Many More Miles Campaign

Baldwin County Families In-Need and Area Homeless Population to Benefit from Special Campaign Giving Life to Old Shoes

Daphne, AL (January 27, 2022) – Local school-age kids, runners and exercise enthusiasts may have put a lot of miles on old running shoes and shoes for all purposes, but when they are donated to the “Many More Miles” campaign, those shoes will come to life again as they land on the feet of someone who really needs them.

For the 18th year, Baldwin Bone & Joint, P.C. will once again host this important community project. For the first time, the local orthopaedic practice will actively partner with Baldwin County Public Schools, City Hope Church and organizers of the 2022 Spring.

Since its inception, response to the campaign has grown from 200 pairs donated in 2004 to a record-breaking 2,728 pairs contributed most recently. Shoe donations for 2022 will be accepted starting in early February with final shoe drop-offs received at the 2022 Spring Fever Chase on Saturday, March 19th in Fairhope, AL.

Baldwin County students will once again be rewarded for collecting the highest number of shoes with money for their schools’ new P.E. equipment. Baldwin Bone & Joint will award cash prizes to the top three Baldwin County Public Schools who donate the most shoes. Note of interest: over the years, shoes donated by local schools provides the largest collective donation to this important campaign.

Eddie TylerIt’s amazing what something as simple as a pair of shoes can do for someone. Things that many of us take for granted can mean the world to someone else. For a child, it may mean they can walk the halls of their school with pride. For adults, it may be a means to help them provide for their family. Shoes are instrumental for everyday life, and we could not think of a better cause to be involved in. Congrats to the “Many More Miles” campaign for the years of success it’s had. We look forward to seeing what the campaign will contribute again this year, states Eddie Tyler, Superintendent, Baldwin County Public Schools. Important Coronavirus Update

Coronavirus

To all our patients and their families, please know your health and well-being continue to be our top priority. The physicians and staff of Baldwin Bone & Joint remain committed to taking extra precautions during this historic COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak as we continue the gradual process of easing restrictions and lifting the State’s “stay at home” order. Please take a moment to read helpful information below to keep in mind as you prepare for your next visit with us.

Screening patients who may be at risk for COVID-19 (Coronavirus): All patients will be screened for COVID-19 exposure.  Our automated pre-registration system will guide each patient through a series of questions that will help identify those risks.  Patients with COVID-19 symptoms may be asked to reschedule their appointment as a remote telehealth visit.

Curbside check-in: To maintain additional social distancing, patients can now choose to “skip the lobby” and wait in their vehicle until called back to their exam room.  Upon arrival in our parking lot, patients may simply call our front desk (625-2663) and one of our associates will provide instruction.

Telemedicine visits:  In many instances, our physicians can serve the needs of patients remotely, using live audio and/or video. Those who choose this option will still receive the world-class care Baldwin Bone & Joint is known for.  When scheduling an appointment, please ask an associate if interested in telehealth services.

Available masks for patients and guests: Consistent with Alabama Department of Health guidelines, face coverings are recommended but not required. Patients and guests are welcome to arrive with their own masks or we can provide a disposable mask.

One guest per patient appointment allowed. We ask our patients to limit their appointments to a maximum of one additional person.

Hand sanitizer and wipes available in our lobby and exam room areas. We continue to maintain the highest level of cleanliness and disinfection throughout all our clinic locations. Our lobby areas and exam rooms are adequately stocked with the supplies necessary for our patients and guests to maintain proper hygiene (hand sanitizer, wipes, gloves, tissue, etc.).

This continues to be an uncertain time for all of us but know that Baldwin Bone & Joint remains committed to your health. Until this crisis has passed (and it will pass), our staff remains committed to striving to maintain the same friendly, professional and safe environment you have come to rely upon.

Daphne-Based Baldwin Bone & Joint Offers Tips For What To Do if Your Orthopaedic Surgery is Postponed

surgical masksDAPHNE, AL (April 10, 2020) – The continued spread of COVID-19 has called on everyone—and especially the healthcare system—to quickly adapt. Many hospitals have postponed elective surgeries to be rescheduled later as they deal with the current crisis. Elective surgeries are surgeries that are not life-threatening and can be scheduled in advance. The patient chooses to have the surgery to better his or her quality of life. Many orthopaedic surgeries fall under this category even though the underlying conditions can be very serious and the discomfort to the patient can be significant.

What can a patient do when his or her surgery is postponed due to COVID-19 safety measures? Though many orthopaedic conditions are not life-threatening, they can be painful and restrict your movement. Here’s some helpful advice on how patients can alleviate their pain while they wait for surgery.

SPORTS INJURIES

  • For certain sports injuries, you’ll want to participate in a physical therapy program to maintain strength and range of motion as you await your surgery.
  • For knee injuries, you may need to minimize movements that use your knee, such as jumping and running—and also consider using additional knee support in some cases.

SPINE PROBLEMS

  • Get plenty of rest and relaxation.
  • Avoid movements like lifting up and bending down that might put too much pressure on your spine.
  • Work with your physical therapist to determine whether to continue your physical therapy program.
  • To alleviate painful symptoms, pain medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can help.

ARTHRITIS

  • Minimize activities and movements that cause you joint pain, which might include running, jumping, and pivoting.
  • Try applying heat (e.g. heating pads, hot baths) or cold (e.g. ice packs) to your affected joints to relieve pain – one may be more effective than the other in your particular case.
  • Alleviate pain by using a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or in some cases, an injection of a corticosteroid.

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

  • You may be advised to wear a wrist splint to hold your wrist during the night to relieve numbness and tingling.
  • A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or corticosteroid injection administered by a physician can help relieve your pain.
